you could easily throw some stand up bass and some orchestral stuff and really disney princess it out.
APLM:is it okay if you listen to something i wrote?
TCT:thaaaat's reaally good. congratulations, you can write songs.
APLM:do you think it's too bare?
TCT:I'd be worried of putting more things in there. I mean sure, you could easily throw some stand up bass and some orchestral stuff and really disney princess it out, but I don't think that's necessary at all.
APLM:"disney princess it out"? hahaha!
TCT:I know. I was pretty proud of that one. but I mean honestly. THAT IS SO GOOD THAT IT COULD BE A DISNEY PRINCESS SONG. fuck. I would kill to be able to write a disney princess song. not in the cards.
APLM:can you please move away from the disney princess comparison? lol.
TCT:ok, fine, fine. I don't mean it's celine dion or whatever.
APLM:this was a fuck hard song to write. i had a time limit of 90 seconds and i had to chop off a whole verse to make it fit. fffffu.
TCT:much more stripped down neko casey. it works perfectly. i'm sure you could probably throw another verse in, but I'm not sure it's necessary.
#101 STILL FIGHTING (LIL MIAO). i think this was my attempt at neo soul. haha. anyway. yet another fantastic beat from tibbz of miscellaneous, and also amazing production and mastering by the main man of tower of doom. one of my bigger regrets is never ever playing this song live.
i totally forgot to make one of these! what the hell. let’s make this quick and short. last weekend:
(01) my dad took back the me-20 and gave me the me-50 instead. he’s also trying to get me to use his red strat so i don’t lug the vintage jag all over the city (when i eventually gig with a guitar); and he’s asking what kind of amplifier i want. pretty much the best dad ever.
(02) did not get to work on any covers; however i did start tracking vocals for 2 collaborations — one with wandering mayor and one with dhublly. both tracks are smack dab in the middle of what i want to do with my solo music right now. happiness!
(03) recorded 2 episodes of SOUND TRIP for sari-sari sounds, both featuring songs off of pamilia dimagiba’s “the resistance.”
(04) the cellar doors booked 2 gigs happening on the second week of august (the 8th and the 11th). gotta get those harmonies down pat.
alright! that’s pretty much it. still not as productive as i’d like to be, but at least i’m moving. on my plate for this weekend:
(01) finishing the vocal tracking for both collaborations. i need to get my melodies and harmonies up to snuff and record a few takes of each track i want to do.
(02) recording at least 2 or 3 covers.
(03) working on some short originals for an FPFM project.
(04) reconnecting with ken-i and get some sort of production schedule down for the EP we’re planning to do
that’s it for now. maybe if i find more time to do stuff i’ll even get started on figuring out the me-50! hah. i can’t wait for the weekend.
APLM is a beast and is definitely always worth a listen. Can’t wait to (seriously) start working on the EP with her, I’ve been slackin -_-
Anyway, get this tapes. You iPod will thank you.
ken-i! i totally just saw this now; missed it when you first posted it. haha. can’t wait to work with you either, let’s get that EP done! we’ve got a lot of good ideas — now we just need the time and momentum to get started.
and thanks for pimping my music. :) you know i bump the 85th all day, every day, every damn day all the way here in the P.I., right?
#100 THAT THING YOU DO (COVER). OMG. we’ve reached the 100 wave mark, sillyheads. this is… what is this, i don’t even. when i first started doing these daily waves of mine, i didn’t realize how much it would help me, to be honest. the whole point of the daily waves was for me to get used to non-anonymously sharing my music (which i still do have trouble with — anxiety attacks notwithstanding).
anyway. since wave #001 i’ve worked on several collaborations with several artists, i’ve become a full member of my band, i’ve performed our music live (in front of a real audience, OMG), i’ve started hosting my own radio show, and i’ve pretty much gotten used to people randomly mentioning that they’ve heard one of my waves, or one of my original songs via tumblr or facebook or any of the other places online that i frequent.
because of these things, i’ve decided that i no longer need daily waves. (not so) sad, but true; i’m still a shy little sillyhead, but i think that these issues of mine are no longer debilitating. so, the daily waves will be daily no longer — instead, they’ll be weekend waves upon the sand. <3 twice a week, instead of every day.
as for this particular wave — “that thing you do” — why did i choose it as my #100th? it’s quite simple, really. this cover is the reason i got invited to the futures passed free music label. <3 we’ve still to iron some things out, but pretty much we’re set as far as my (in my solo artist capacity) being part of their roster is concerned. yay! i’ll post more on this as it develops.
first of all, happy birthday to my erstwhile partner-in-non-crime, almost technicolor! can’t wait for the new album, bro. should be awesome.
alright! now that we’ve covered that, the facts: i worked through the night (YES, THROUGH THE NIGHT, I DON’T LIVE IN NORTH AMERICA, OKAY?) to meet a deadline, and right before breakfast i got a text telling me not to go to work because of the heavy rains. MY BODY WAS READY. like, i had my snazzy grownup work clothes on and everything.
so now i’m awake and jacked up on coffee and cigarettes, but i’ve got nothing to do (but maybe work on some blog entries for sari-sari sounds; we’ll see).
#097 MAD WORLD (TEARS FOR FEARS COVER). i think K must have requested this about a gajillion times before i finally did it. haha. this is from the tiny little birthday present EP i did a while back, for him. (this is how much i love people who love the music i make!)
#095 MORE (LIL MIAO). this was an early favorite of mine. during the whole recording process, i remember my exec prod (the main man himself, the king of the tower of doom) kept on urging me to let loose and to “really feel” my words when i was rapping. he was new to hip hop; i was new to professional recording. haha! we made it work. this song is the result of three creative minds: me and him, and the beat producer, tibbz of miscellaneous.
"more" was born out of an idea that i had while watching a cigarette burn down to the filter. it was originally a short spoken word piece. (part of the piece is still in the song!) i was going to leave it without a singing part, but it didn’t feel whole without some sort of melodic charm. L (of OBS) calls it my "ashanti moment." talk about dating yourself; that fucking reference is hilarious. hahaha, oh man.
what's going on? I haven't been on my computer in a long time, I've been using my dad's laptop since I've moved everything. How's everything been?
great! i’ve been itching to make new music, though. it seems like everyone i’m working with was on hiatus for one reason or another, and they all got back to me and buckled down for our collaborations THIS WEEKEND.
can’t wait. a lot of surprises in the next few weeks! :)
oh and email me, let’s update each other in detail, fool:
