#238 TELEPHONE (STEPH MILLS FEAT. RUGGZ & A PROBLEM LIKE MARIA). oh my goodness, i’ve been waiting for this song for forever! steph asked me to sing the hook of this song ages ago, and i actually thought that she only used one hook (i sent four, i think). glad she included more than just the main chorus of the song—thought this turned out really well. :)
when i grow up, i want to rap like steph mills! hahaha. until then, though, i’m content singing her songs’ hooks.
99 Problems and Maria is 1 turns one today! <3 My first hip hop LP from 2012—it’s still up online for streaming/DL, too.
#237 JUST GIVE ME A REASON (PINK FEAT. NATE RUESS) (COVER). started as a study/demo for my band (because one of them wanted to cover this), but while i was finding out if the original key would fit my voice, i thought, “why not?”—and just straight up recorded the thing. i KNOW the bridge isn’t right, and the chorus should repeat more after where i ended; but this ismeant to be a duet, come on.
it may be a pop song, but boy does pink use her vocal range in this one. the verses are just a hair too low for me to sing comfortably, and the bridge is just a hair too high too high to belt without taking more than a few seconds to rest before recording—probably should have just punched in.
Was cleaning out an old WIP folder today after recording when I came across these images. It seems like it was so long ago! I always say this when the subject comes up, and I will continue to say it: Decompose really is one of my favorite things I’ve done.
Hopefully, there will be a Decompose 2 this year. <3 Wugs and I have been talking about it, and I’m really excited to start working on it soon.
#10 Nemo Hose is entirely responsible for “Best Friend.” After working on 99 Problems together, we kept in touch and Nemo asked if I could throw him a sample pack of unused vocals takes I had lying around. I said yes, and days later “Best Friend” surfaced.
The original vocal take was sung over a completely different instrumental and had a completely different feel—nowhere near this chill, trip-hoppy vibe that Nemo Hose brought out of it. It really is his song more than mine. Amazing!

#7 “Neon Signs at 4 AM” by Water Gun Water Gun Sky Attack heavily samples my giggles, which were all sliced up from a rather long recording of me watching and laughing at a Youtube video of Monty Python’s Dead Parrot sketch.
